In the first time in five months since being fired from NBC’s TODAY, Matt Lauer has broken his silence on the sexual misconduct allegations against him. “I have made no public comments on the many false stories from anonymous or biased sources that have been reported about me over these past several months,” he told The Washington Post in an article published yesterday. “I remained silent in an attempt to protect my family from further embarrassment and to restore a small degree of the privacy they have lost. But defending my family now requires me to speak up.” The 60-year-old TV anchor continued, “I fully acknowledge that I acted inappropriately as a husband, father and principal at NBC. However I want to make it perfectly clear that any allegations or reports of coercive, aggressive or abusive actions on my part, at any time, are absolutely false.” Lauer lost his job on November 29 after NBC received a “detailed complaint” about his behavior.
Since he recently returned to Twitter, Kanye West has been sharing his thoughts non-stop–including his controversial support for his “brother,” President Trump. This, in particular, has caused Kim Kardashian’s husband to lose millions of online followers and has sparked renewed concern about his fragile mental health. John Legend went so far as to reach out to Kanye via text, writing, “I hope you’ll reconsider aligning yourself with Trump…What you say really means something to your fans…Don’t let this be part of your legacy. You’re the greatest artist of your generation.” Kanye, who shared a screenshot of his text exchange with Legend on (where else?) Twitter, replied, “I love you, John, and appreciate your thoughts. You bringing up my fans or my legacy is a tactic based on fear used to manipulate my free thought.” The two seemed to end things lightly, however, once Legend realized Kanye was posting his texts. “Since you’re posting texts, let me add that I have a new single out haha,” Legend wrote, to which Kanye replied, “Haha. I love you, John.” Legend’s wife Chrissy Teigen then weighed in by hilariously tweeting to Kim Kardashian, “Are we still doing dinner Friday or no?” Kim quickly replied, “Yes but maybe no phones.”

In other news, the Bronx rapper has been sued by her former manager Shaft for $10 million for “breach of contract, unjust enrichment and defamation.” According to Complex, Shaft has worked with Cardi since 2015, but has been “frozen out of her career.” In a statement released to Complex, a spokesperson for Shaft said, “Since discovering Cardi B in 2015, Shaft has played an integral role in developing her music career and public image. While he is proud of their successful collaborations as she evolved from Instagram influencer to music megastar, Shaft is disappointed by her actions to freeze him out of her career, which are detailed in the complaint. Shaft is confident that his lawsuit will validate his conduct and substantiate his legal claims.” Court documents obtained by Complex also said that Shaft claimed that Cardi “falsely communicat[ed]” to her fiancé Offset and members of her team that “Shaft is robbing me.” Offset reported convinced Cardi to sign with QC.
A source has said that Shaft played a role in Cardi appearing on VH1’s Love & Hip Hop. He also reportedly helped with “Bodak Yellow,” which was written and produced by his team. It has also been claimed that Cardi sought after Shaft to do business.
