The global superstars of BTS will perform their mandatory military service in South Korea, the group’s representatives said Monday, confirming a move that was long dreaded by their army of fans. Under South Korean law, all able-bodied men are expected to serve 18 to 21 months in the military to defend against the threat from the country’s nuclear-armed neighbor, North Korea. But the law allows for special exemptions to be made for some, including athletes, musicians and others who enhance the country’s prestige. BigHit Music said in the statement that the K-pop stars were “honored to serve” their country and would reconvene as a group again around 2025 after fulfilling their service commitment.

Halloween Ends premiered in theaters and holds the top spot at the box office. The sequel to 2021’s Halloween Kills and the thirteenth film in the entire franchise marks the end of the Halloween film trilogy. Variety is projecting a $43.4 million for Halloween Ends during its opening weekend. The movie was initially expected to reach $55 million but it’s still impressive considering its simultaneous release on Peacock likely cut into ticket sales. Overseas, it scared up $17.7 million for a global start of $58.4 million.
A potential intruder didn’t make it as close to Kim Kardashian’s home as he would have liked. Deandre Williams was taken into custody on Saturday as he tried to enter Kim’s gated community in Hidden Hills, California. Williams was able to slip past security, but an early detection system found him, and he was apprehended.
At the height of his success, Akon used his brother, Abou ‘Bu’ Thiam, as a double for performances and appearances. Akon has admitted the deception previously, but it came to light again in a recent interview. Akon said, “Let me clear some things up, so we all know. Bu was my double. He was my double. This was before [the] internet. If you saw Abou in one place and you saw me, you couldn’t tell the difference.”
