The Weeknd will drop the first single from his upcoming album “Hurry Up Tomorrow” Friday. He premiered the song ‘Dancing in the Flames” during a Brazil show on Saturday, and a behind-the-scenes clip that debuted during Apple’s “It’s Glowtime” event Monday shows how the song’s video was shot and entirely using the new iPhone 16.
Sabrina Carpenter’s “Short n’ Sweet” remains atop the Billboard 200 album chart for the second week in a row. She’ll perform tonight at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, where she’s nominated for 6 awards, including Artist of the Year, Best Pop and Song of the Year for ‘Espresso’.
Sting is one veteran artist who is fine with fans whipping out their phones while he’s performing. When asked if he still enjoys performing ‘Every Breath You Take’, his answer was: “Of course I do. Everyone gets their cameras out….It’s visual applause. It looks pretty in the stadium, so I’m not going to object.” His tour launches on September 17, and he’s also doing some stadium shows this fall with Billy Joel.
Chris Young’s ‘Young Love & Saturday Nights’, based on David Bowie‘s 1974 hit ‘Rebel Rebel’ has hit #1 on the Country Radio Singles chart, giving Bowie, who is credited as a co-writer, his first country chart-topper. After Kendrick Lamar was announced as the 2025 Super Bowl 59 Halftime Show, people are wondering who he’ll bring out to perform with him. Swifties, of course, want Taylor Swift and a “Bad Blood” Super Bowl moment. Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar reteamed up to bring new life to her hit “Bad Blood” for the release of 1989 (Taylor’s Version).
Dave Grohl announced yesterday that he fathered a child outside his marriage. He said he plans to be a loving and supportive parent and will also work to regain the trust and forgiveness of his wife and their kids.
Casting has begun for HBO’s upcoming “Harry Potter” series, and producers say they’re, quote, “committed to inclusive, diverse casting.” It’ll be interesting to see what that means, and how much outrage it’ll cause.
Megan Moroney just announced a batch of tour dates for next year. It’s called the “Am I Okay? Tour” . . . and the dates stretch from March to August. For now, she’s only hitting up the eastern half of the U.S. The pre-sale is tomorrow . . . the public sale opens on Friday . . . and “VIP experience” upgrades will be made available next week.
Josh Brolin has declined an offer to star as Hal Jordan in “Lanterns”, a DC Studios series based on the “Green Lantern” superhero character. The role would have added to his comic book resume, having previously portrayed Thanos in Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Avengers” films.
Larry David is extending his “A Conversation With Larry David” live events to 10 new cities in the fall after a successful spring run. The tour, featuring informal discussions about his work on “Seinfeld” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm”, starts in Denver on September 20 and ends in Hollywood, Florida on December 5.
Bad Bunny has joined the cast of Netflix’s “Happy Gilmore 2”. The details of his role are not yet revealed. Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald will reprise their roles, and Adam Sandler has teased a Travis Kelce cameo.
Amazon says the first four episodes of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” season 2 reached 40 million viewers globally in 11 days, but it’s unclear how Amazon quantifies viewership. That falls short of Season 1’s numbers.
