Carter Hickey is a 21-year-old singer songwriter completing his final year of his Bachelor of Music at Carleton University. Carter grew up in a small town in Labrador where his dream of being a musician began. With having limited access to musical opportunity growing up, Carter moved to Ottawa to pursue his dream hoping someday he would be heard by millions. Through his music, Carter wishes to show people the power of music and how it has helped him throughout his life. His debut album, “Mindsight” has shown that music is coping. It is fighting, healing, and feeling, it is also loving, sharing, and living.

His single People Pleasing, which can be found on his album “Mindsight,” deals with the present issue of attempting to appease people at the expense of yourself and how you lose your identity in the process. The message behind the song is an important one in present day life where young individuals like Carter are still trying to find themselves.
