‘Super Mario Bros.’ has passed the $1 billion mark, making it the first film of 2023 to do so. It took only 26 days for the Nintendo film to earn over a billion dollars worldwide. It’s also the most successful video game adaptation to date. Nintendo says there are more ‘Mario’ films to come.
George Michael is the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s fan vote winner, earning over a million public votes. The late vocalist will now have an extra count towards being inducted in the Hall of Fame Class of ’23. Runners-up Cyndi Lauper, Warren Zevon, Soundgarden and Iron Maiden will also get that same additional count.

CBS aired the final episode of “The Late Late Show” after a 28-year run on Thursday, and its termination may have had to do with the show’s declining profitability. Los Angeles magazine is quoting a source as saying that the late-night show, hosted by James Corden since 2015, cost $60-65 million per year to produce — but only made less than $45 million.

Cyndi Lauper’s new documentary, “Let the Canary Sing”, will make its debut at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York on June 14. It’s directed by Alison Ellwood, who most recently oversaw the Emmy-winning series “Laurel Canyon”.

Steve Martin and Martin Short revealed the season three release date for “Only Murders in the Building” while on the “You Won’t Believe What They Look Like Today!” tour. “Catch the new season August 8,” Steve said in Orlando, Florida, Saturday. Following this, Martin added, “Our show is like Steve trying to pee — it streams for 33 minutes.”
Taylor Swift paid tribute to The National as she played “Coney Island” for the first time during the Eras tour. While performing the surprise set segment of her show in Atlanta, Georgia, Taylor said, “This band has influenced me beyond my ability to verbalize how much they’ve influenced me — just lyrically, their ability to set a scene, their ability to tell a story. And obviously, Aaron Dessner is in the National and he has completely changed my life.”
Ed Sheeran will embark on a 14-city North American tour beginning May 19th in Clearwater, Florida. “The Subtract Tour”, featuring special guest Ben Kweller, will hit cities like Atlanta, Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, Denver, and Seattle before wrapping in Los Angeles on September 22nd.
Miley Cyrus is about to get a new stepdad. The singer’s mother, Tish Cyrus, announced that she is engaged to “Prison Break” star Dominic Purcell. The Cyrus family matriarch shared engagement photos on Instagram along with the caption, “A thousand times…. YES.” The “Flowers” singer’s parents, Tish and Billy Ray Cyrus, filed for divorce in April 2022 after 30 years of marriage.

A new Adam McKay movie is coming to Netflix, titled “Average Height, Average Build”. Amy Adams and Robert Pattinson are set to star in the film, which has been described as “part serial-killer thriller, part comedy.” Other cast members include Robert Downey Jr., Forest Whitaker, and Danielle Deadwyler.
