Portland’s new WNBA franchise will use the name of the old team. The Portland Fire joins the league in 2026. The nickname and logo were revealed on Tuesday. The Fire was the name of the former WNBA team in Portland, but the franchise folded in 2003. The WNBA is expanding to 18 teams by 2028 with franchises coming to Toronto, Cleveland, Detroit and Philadelphia.
