Internationally renowned classical ballet company Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal presents the beloved fairy-tale Sleeping Beauty. In this staging, acclaimed former dancer and choreographer Marcia Haydée re-imagines the original 19th-century version by Marius Petipa. While the essence of the original ballet is preserved, the role of the evil fairy plays a much more important role, as Carabosse becomes a central and Manichean character, nuanced, personifying both Evil and Good, since no being is completely, and inherently Evil.
Rediscover the story of Aurora, the slumbering princess who, the day of her christening, is cursed to prick her finger and perish on her 16th birthday. But instead of succumbing to the curse, she falls into a deep sleep meant to last a century, and only her true love’s kiss can awaken her.
Sleeping Beauty is performed to the music of Piotr Ilitch Tchaïkowsky, interpreted live by the National Arts Centre Orchestra.
