“Challengers” debuted in the top spot at the box office this weekend, earning $15 million from over 3,400 locations. The R-rated drama set in the tennis world, and starring Zendaya, has been getting good word-of-mouth, but has a long way to go before making back its $55 million budget.
Billy Corgan is taking wrestling fans on a wild ride with his new CW reality TV series, “Adventures in Carnyland”. The Smashing Pumpkins frontman announced a new reality show focused on his ownership of the National Wrestling Alliance. The eight-episode unscripted series is set to premiere on The CW app on May 14.
Lainey Wilson is known for her bell-bottom country flair, and now she’s bringing it to the people. She announced a new partnership with Charlie1Horse Hats. “Watching y’all come out to the shows in your bells and hats only cemented my decision that we needed a special line just for all the cowgirls and cowboys out there lookin’ to make a statement with their look,” she wrote on X.
H.E.R. and Oprah Winfrey are teaming up again. After working together on “The Color Purple”, H.E.R. will develop and star in a movie based on majorettes and their impact on Black culture. The movie is described as a dance film that takes place on an HBCU campus.
Jon Bon Jovi seems open to a Bon Jovi hologram tour, following in the steps of KISS and ABBA. He says “I don’t think I’m opposed to anything like it yet. I don’t know if the technology’s there. I don’t mind the idea of images of us being out there for people to go and enjoy. I don’t think that’s a sin. I don’t find that to be at all a turn off.”
Julia Garner has been cast in the Paramount+ prequel to the classic horror film “Rosemary’s Baby”, titled “Apartment 7A”. The psychological thriller, set in 1965 New York City, will explore the events leading up to the original film.
CBS and Dick Clark Productions reached a deal to air the “American Music Awards” on CBS and stream it on Paramount+. The 2024 ceremony, which marks the 50th anniversary of the event, will take place on October 6.
Ryan Gosling made a surprise appearance during Universal Studios Hollywood’s “Waterworld” stunt show. He was there to promote his new movie “The Fall Guy”, which he described as “a love letter to the stunt community.” But no one in the crowd knew he’d be there, and they had a skit during the pre-show where they kept trying to get him involved in the “stunt spectacular,” but he kept saying he just “came out to say hi.” There was even a recurring joke about him being the guy from “Deadpool”.
Taylor Swift’s “The Tortured Poets Department” has 57 swear words, which is a 5,600% increase in profanity from her first album. The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Two babies named “Johnny Cash” and “June Carter” were born at the same hospital on the same day this month. It happened in Huntsville, Alabama on April 10th. June Carter Clark arrived at 2:30 P.M. Then Johnny Cash Davis arrived later that night at 9:50 P.M.
“Kraven the Hunter” starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson will hit theaters in December, instead of August. The next “Karate Kid” movie got moved to May 2025, instead of December.
“Survivor” host and showrunner Jeff Probst confirmed that Season 50 of the show will feature all returning players. Although the landmark anniversary season is a few years away, Jeff admitted that planning has already begun.
“NCIS: Hawaii” has been canceled by CBS, with its third season finale on May 6 serving as the series finale. But the NCIS franchise continues with the original series getting renewed and other spin-offs and prequels in the works.
Linkin Park topped several charts this week with the band’s first-ever greatest hits album, “Papercuts – Singles Collection 2000-2023”. It’s #1 on both, the Billboard Top Hard Rock Albums Chart and the Top Vinyl Albums Chart.
